Entry Seven
My Grandpa and I had a long discussion last fall about my family history. He lives in Canada, and doesn't use technology very often, so thought I tried to email him and call him to ask him to remind me of a few things, to no avail. But, I wanted to type up some of the things we discussed about my family.
So, one of the main things I recall, is that my family used to live in Bern, Switzerland. My Ancestor there became a consulate, and we owned land.I think close to that ime, our land was in Vyna, Switzerland. Soon after that, we moved to Siret, Romania. In Romania, we lived on the border of the Bohemian Forests, so I like to think that I have bohemian blood in me, and that's why I live the way I do.
In Romania, one of the things we discussed was that everything was built of the roads. Our family farm/lands were off the roads, and they way they were arranged was in long thin strips stretching our from the road. You could walk a few miles and pass several farms, because the strips of land were thin but stretched far out from the road.
This made the land look striped, and maps of Romania look very pretty for this reason.
Beyond that, my Grandpa told me how I was eight cousins tenth removed (Or something, I don't remember exactly) with President Herbert Hoover. The Hoover branch changed their name from Huber to Hoover when they moved to the states. Is this a legend? Perhaps. Some of my siblings definitely think so. But based on the evidence I have seen, I believe it.
Thanks for reading!
